I'm going to spend the next week or two delving into each of these more deeply, one by one, and discussing what you can do to make sure that you are ready for a relationship when your Mr. Right comes along. Do you find yourself turning down invitations to social functions because you don't have a date to bring? Are you the type of woman who needs to know you have a new boyfriend lined up before you will break it off with your current guy?

Taylor Swift has surely cut a swathe through more A-list men then any other female celebrity. Wouldn't that have been something if they'd stayed together and had baby Taylors? Then there was Calvin Harris, the man who seemed to capture her heart. But as Calvin exited stage left, within weeks entered a new leading man: Tom Hiddleston, of Night Manager fame.

Many might think Taylor's just a bit greedy, bagging all these guys. But as a relationship expert, when I see a woman who always has a boyfriend, I wonder if she has - what I've dubbed - man-reliant 'syndrome' or MRS.

Scroll down for video. Feel sad without a boyfriend? You might have man-reliant 'syndrome' according to love expert Dr Pam. Of course, Taylor might be highly confident and sure of herself, I've never met her.

But MRS is far too common. I've come across many 'Taylors', like Georgina a year-old events manager, who has never gone longer than a fortnight without a man to call her own over the last decade. As she's worked her way up in her business, Georgina admits that, like a hamster on trapped on a relationship wheel, she felt the need to find a new man.

It was only after her last break-up, after murmurings from friends that maybe she needed a break from men, that Georgina decide enough was enough. Taylor Swift has cut a swathe through more A-list men then any other celebrity, like Calvin Harris, above. After coaching her about building inner confidence, and boosting her belief that she's able to stand on her own two feet, and that she was a person in her own right who didn't need a man to validate her, Georgina has moved on very positively.

Because those issues are usually at the heart of MRS. Even if a woman isn't consciously aware of it, once you probe a bit, I hear things like: 'I can't imagine life without a boyfriend', 'it makes me feel I'm not good enough if I don't have a partner' and 'I feel more confident when I have a man in my life.

It's wonderful to have a relationship but only when you know you're a person in your own right too. But if any of those statements apply to you, take my quick quiz to see how high you score on the man reliant scale.

If a question doesn't apply, choose the answer that fits you best. Do you hate going to an event without a date? Take Dr Pam's quick quiz to see how high you score on man-reliant 'syndrome'. It's important to your well-being and the well-being of future relationships you start believing life can be great without a man. Try these six strategies:. Check the internal messages you give yourself. Do you catch yourself fantasising about your next boyfriend, hoping for a boyfriend more than anything, telling yourself life will be so much better when you meet him?

Dr Pam Spurr reveals the clues that you're too dependent on having a man in your life. Such internal messages - your inner voice - keep you stuck believing that you must have a man to make you whole.

Challenge these messages with 'active awareness'. This is becoming mindful of these thoughts and challenging them, telling yourself they simply aren't true. Choose an activity just for you - not to meet men.

Commit to doing this weekly, maybe learning a new language or skill. Relish this accomplishment. Focus on your best qualities as a whole person. Have you got a good sense of humour? Are you quick witted and good in an emergency? Whatever your qualities are, take a moment every day to remind yourself of them.

Arrange to do things with friends that, again, aren't about meeting men. Make these get-togethers all about enjoying each other's company. Look back at relationships that were less than happy and accept the fact you chose to stay in them because you wanted a man in your life. Accepting responsibility for past choices helps you make better ones in the future.

Become more choosy about men. Don't allow yourself to slip into a third rate relationship. If, after the first few dates, you know you're doing it just for the company, don't take it any further. You're at risk of less happiness, having lower confidence and self-belief if you don't start to believe you're good enough on your own.

Definitely check the advice above. Great news that don't necessarily have to have a man in your life. That's how it should be. You meet the best men when you're feeling good about yourself. Check the advice above to keep yourself strong. Argos AO. Do YOU need a man to be happy? Be The Kind Of Woman Who Doesn’t Need A Man To Be Happy

When I read or hear any variation of the above quotes, I cringe and die a little inside. Why have we become people who willingly and voluntarily allow someone else to control the state of our happiness? A relationship is not meant to make you happy. To put an expectation on someone else that their commitment to you is a commitment to keep you in a constant state of happiness, is fucking lunacy.

I used to think that I needed a boyfriend to feel complete. I thought that if I had a boyfriend, then I would have the complete package.

Take a minute and step back from your man search. You have friends, family, co-workers and more. You have plenty of people to talk to, do things with, and be happy around. You can reach higher shelves, you can go out to dinner, you can support yourself.
