‘No Man’s Sky’ base-building guide

Players firing up the game now may notice that the crafting requirements have been altered, fuel elements have changed, and new products are available. You can now stake claim on a world to make it your home, construct a base and hire specialists to run it, while unlocking new capabilities along the way.

You can only have one at a time, though. You can also now use a new item on space stations: A teleporter that takes you directly back to your base. Use it to quickly get home, saving time and warp fuel. Your teleporter only lets you go back to the last station from which you teleported, though. The builder is basically just an in-house questgiver who will tell you what to do to unlock new blueprints and products for more crafting.

Head up to space. Keep that in mind for later. Build a new room and the appropriate terminal, then leave your planet. With your Scientist on board, you can start getting missions from both your specialists. Look for a vase-shaped flower that shows up near spikey-looking rocks and usually emits a colored glow. Use your Antrium to craft at least two right now, then go talk to your Builder. You can slap one together right now with your two new cells.

They have lots of space, more than your ship, so take advantage by stacking your units. Note that it requires a substance called Rigogen and not copper, for some reason to build. For now, head back to the Builder.

Your next Builder mission is to destroy drones to gather an element called Pugneum. Shoot two and return to the Builder. Make yourself another Voltaic Cell and visit your Builder one more time. Head back to base and talk to your Armorer. You can craft a plate right now with the spare Condensium you brought plus some Antrium , but save of it for farming later. Head back to your Armorer.

Once you bring back a single Gek Charm, you can build the Agriculture Station and recruit a Gek farmer, your last specialist.

Head to the space station of a Gek system. You just need to wrap up each quest line. You can find one easily, exactly the same way you found a Gek Charm to get your Farmer. Search for gray item icons and check green footlockers for your dagger. The short answer to how to get some is to kill a bunch of local fauna. Plant one as soon as you can to advance the Farmer quest line. You can safely ignore these or sell them. Back to the Farmer, who will tell you his next batch of seeds, Carrion Root, require an element called Coprite to grow.

Coprite, you should know, is poop. You can get it by feeding random wild animals. Once you get your Carrion Root seeds, plant three of them when you can to fulfill a later quest. If they produce Mordite, you can take it to your Builder for his next quest, unlocking decals to stick on your base if not, just kill some more animals.

Plant some with your spare Condensium now, and when you can harvest it, try to plant more. Turn in a Sac Venom to your Scientist to kick on to the next quest in that line.

Your Builder by now will have asked for Circuit Boards, and your Scientist can help you make them if you bring him Copper Wire. It is, however, easy enough to find — you just need to locate a planet with some oceans. Fly to one, set down, and jump into the water to find Rigogen plants. They look like glowing lightbulbs floating on a group of stems, almost like a candelabra or upside-down chandelier.

Gather at least units, but preferably more like Bring it to your builder to unlock the Automated Mining Unit, which can make you money by mining minerals for you. Glass is made from an element called Coryzagen, which is another scannable planet element that you can see from space. It only exists on snowy planets. Gather at least Coryzagen when you find it to fulfill various quests.

When you get back, bring your Farmer some of your spare Rigogen to unlock Puffballs, which produce Temerium. After that, your Farmer will unlock Skywort seeds if you turn in some Antrium, which produces Coryzagen in your base.

Plant some, and take some to your Armorer to move his quest line forward. Head back to your Builder. When you find it, gather at least extra units to use for Puffball seeds to add more self-sufficiency to your base. Back to your Farmer. You already should have planted three of them, which means you should be ready to go with Dicotyl. Next, your Farmer will need you to craft a unit of Glass to unlock Cucrassula seeds, which produce Spodanium.

You should have the Coryzagen to easily produce glass, and spare Spodanium enough to plant Cucrassula, setting you up on a key ingredient for Insulating Gel. Talk to your Scientist next. The next thing you need for Insulating Gel is to head to a relic site somewhere nearby.

Fly over, hit the site, and head back. Talk to your Builder once or twice more to complete their questline altogether.

Your Scientist and Farmer still have a few things left for you to do. Look for them around settlements and bases in particular. Time to head to space and track down both elements. But you can tell the green, red and blue stars if you look closely on the map. G tells you the star is yellow. This could be a long trip. Both Viridium and Rubeum are scannable from space, so check the planets in the system before you land.

Rubeum will appear on the surface of planets as a bright red and gray oval-shaped mound, similar to how gold presents. When you find something, blast your way through with grenades to mine it.

Good news: That ends both the Farmer and Scientist quest lines. You have access to everything and can build the base of your dreams, provided you want to sink the time in. The Scientist is a hireable Korvax NPC, required for essential tech but also base building progression. They can be found in Korvax systems , but can also randomly be found in systems controlled by other species. The Scientist is notable for requiring the player to wait an hour and a half in real time twice during their mission, for a total of three hours in real time. After completing their mission, the player may give planetary data they've previously gathered to the Scientist for a reward of Nanite Clusters. Sign In.
