Kat is a seventeen year old in Sydney with a passion for music, just not that produced by the biggest boy band in the world, Unrequited. When her mother gets delayed on a work trip, Kat has to escort her younger sisters, who are huge fans, to an Unrequited concert. Kat can think of a million different things she would prefer to be doing, like studying for her final exams or listening to her favourite band, 5 Seconds of Summer. A chance encounter with a cute boy on the train might just make up for the backstage passes to Unrequited, but will she see him again?

Unrequited

I really, really want to get this book. I shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't resist Summary from Goodreads:. Seventeen-year-old Kat Hartland loathes Unrequited, the world's biggest boy band. Review: Unrequited Musical Theatre Project

Boy Bands and the Performance of Pop Masculinity provides a history of the boy band from the Beatles to One Direction, placing the modern male pop group within the wider context of twentieth- and twenty-first-century popular music and culture. Offering the first extended look at pop masculinity as exhibited by boy bands, this volume links the evolving expressions of gender and sexuality in the boy band to wider economic and social changes that have resulted in new ways of representing what it is to be a man. The popularity of boy bands is unquestionable, and their contributions to popular music are significant, yet they have attracted relatively little study. This book fills that gap with chapters exploring the challenges of defining the boy band phenomenon, its origins and history from the s to the present, the role of management and marketing, the performance of gender and sexuality, and the nature of fandom and fan agency.

She never misses an opportunity to drop Hamilton into the conversation, while I… well, you can read about the time I randomly auditioned for a musical here. The musical was staged for the first time in Canberra a few months ago, to great reviews, and so I asked Emma and Sally to write a post to bring together all of those Facebook updates and share with us exactly how one goes about turning a novel into a musical. Ideas for novels hit in the strangest of places.

Emma Grey , Audrey THomas. But somewhere, underneath all of this hard slog, there are the things we really want to do. The things that bring us joy and give our lives meaning. More often than not, the only thing standing between us and getting on with those things is ourselves.

Unrequited…the making of a novel

We were on our way home from the One Direction concert in October last year, and my year-old was distraught that it was over. Did you plan the story with the ending before you started writing? Or did it develop as you went along? No idea. This sounds weird, but the characters seemed to tell me the story and all I did was type it up for them. It felt like I was about a sentence behind them, just trying to get down the gist of what was happening. A few paragraphs of Chapter 1, med student, Joel Isaacson, invited himself aboard the train Kat was on, and into the storyline.

Unrequited: Girl Meets Boy Band

Perfect formal partner, much? But when Kat comes face to face with Angus Marsden himself, things start to get complicated. This is such a cute story, and because of that I had to give it an A. First of all, the characters are written perfectly in this book, and Kat is the perfect depiction of a girl in high school.
